Microsoft says demand for Vista is strong: 180 million licenses sold
Redmond (WA) – There was a small number hiding in Microsoft’s FQ4 (CQ2) quarter release – a number we did not catch initially: The company said 180 million Windows Vista licenses have been sold so far and that demand for the operating system has been growing over the past year. 200 GB per disk: Toshiba leads 2.5” hard drive storage density
Irvine (CA) – Toshiba has upgraded its 2.5” hard drive series with a new 400 GB model. The total capacity is 20% less than what Toshiba’s rivals are currently offering, but Toshiba has the edge in terms of storage density: While the 500 GB 2.5” drives use three 167 GB disks, Toshiba achieves 400 GB with just two 200 GB disks. These are impressive numbers if we are considering the fact that 200 GB per disk was widely used in 3.5” drives just last year.

Apple says sorry and gives away a month of MobileMe for free
Cupertino (CA) – Apple’s new MobileMe cloud service has been hit with a series of unexpected performance and reliability issues that spoiled the Friday launch. While the company struggles to iron out various issues it is finally stepping forward to acknowledge problems. In an email letter sent out to all MobileMe users, Apple says that the .Mac to MobileMe transition was “a lot rockier than we had hoped.”
